Peetoon Picks Spots and Prevails to Capture 8/29 Sunday Million Title

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Sunday Million logo.jpgEvery Sunday, players can find their trusty Sunday Million tournament, as well as numerous other PokerStars options. But on the last Sunday of each month, players also have events like the Battle of the Planets and the $1,000,000 Turbo Takedown. As the month of August drew to a close, the tournament options increased and made it a very exciting night of online poker.

But back to the task at hand, the Sunday Million hosted its weekly event with a $1.5 million guarantee, and this week's registration found 8,190 players in it to win it. That boosted the prize pool to $1,638,000 and paid out the top 1,170 players. And as some of the players got deeper into the money and ever closer to the last few tables, one name caught our eye, as Leo Fernandez is a member of Team PokerStars Pro. He was hanging around the top five spots on the leaderboard for some time, though just as three tables were reduced to two, Fernandez was eliminated in 19th place. His finish was worth $3,603.60 in prize money...and a kudos from Stars.

As the final table got closer, one player had to be eliminated to reduce the field to nine, and it all went down when ganganganga made the all-in move preflop with [9d][9h]. But Peetoon called with [Kh][Kc], and the interesting board of [5d][As][5s][2s][Kd] only improved the kings into a full house to eliminate ganganganga in tenth place with $8,763.30.

Peetoon in prime position

It was a quick one, as the final table was reached just about 9 hours and 15 minutes into action. And on the last leg of Level 33, with blinds at 100,000/200,000 and a 20,000 ante, players began the final table with the following chip counts:

Seat 1: CON28 (2,559,272 in chips)
Seat 2: Randers (9,333,528 in chips)
Seat 3: Bad Habbitz (2,879,881 in chips)
Seat 4: FightnIrishh (21,578,690 in chips)
Seat 5: RedIceRap (7,058,750 in chips)
Seat 6: Peetoon (22,316,649 in chips)
Seat 7: jsonelin (2,333,773 in chips)
Seat 8: trionojnika (9,267,777 in chips)
Seat 9: smsuwrestler (4,571,680 in chips)

2010 Million final table 08.29.10.JPG

Several players started the action with relatively short stacks, and it didn't take long for one of them to make a move. CON28 gave it a shot preflop with [4h][4s], and trionojnika reraised to isolate, which worked, before showing the powerful [Ah][Ac]. The dealer had nothing of much significance to show when the board was shown as [Tc][8d][8h][Ts][Kd], and that left CON28 out of the tournament in ninth place with $12,694.50 to show for it.

Bad Habbitz soon took the opportunity to double up and did it successfully through smsuwrestler.

On the very next hand, jsonelin tried to do the same. But jsonelin did it with only [Kd][2c], and Randers raised to isolate from the small blind and then showed [Ah][4c]. The flop of [2s][7d][9h] hit jsonelin with bottom pair, and the [6s] on the turn looked like a double-up was in order against the odds. But the [Ac] dropped on the river to give Randers the pair of aces and eliminate jsonelin in eighth place with $18,837.00.

FightnIrishh battles to top of leaderboard

FightnIrishh held true to his online moniker and fought to grab hold of the chip lead not long after the final table began. Peetoon lost quite a bit of ground to trionojnika but eventually gained it back with a significant pot that put Peetoon back into second place.

Meanwhile, smsuwrestler never quite recovered from the earlier beat by Bad Habbitz, and the two soon tangled again. Bad Habbitz started the hand with an all-in move holding [Qh][Qd], and smsuwrestler called all-in for his tournament life with [Ad][Js]. And the board was a rather uneventful [9c][9d][4h][8s][Th], and Bad Habbitz scooped the chips and stayed in the game, while smsuwrestler left the action with $32,760.00 for seventh place.

Speaking of Bad Habbitz, that player was certainly ready to move again, this time doing it preflop for 4,656,561 chips with [Kd][Qd]. But original raiser Randers made the call with [Ad][Kh]. The flop of [7h][Kc][6h] gave both players the pair of kings, and the [Qh] on the turn gave Bad Habbitz the top two pair. But a tough [2h] came on the river, completing a heart flush for Randers and sending Bad Habbitz out in sixth place with $49,140.00.

Only four hands later, a massive pot developed preflop. Trionojnika started with a raise, and Randers reraised. RedIceRap popped it again from the big blind, and after trionojnika got out of the way, Randers came over the top all-in for a whopping 13,073,863 chips. RedIceRap made the easy call with [Ad][Ah], and Randers showed only [As][Kc]. The board of [2s][2h][3s][Ac][Kh] gave RedIceRap the full house, and 2008 WSOOP winner Randy "Randers" Haddox was suddenly gone in fifth place with $65,520.00.

Peetoon wages comeback

And that comeback began with the following hand that catapulted Peetoon back into the chip lead:

RSS readers click through to see replay

Trionojnika decided to risk 9,419,828 chips from the small blind with [Ah][4s] preflop, and FightnIrishh made the call from the big blind with a dominating [Ad][Jh]. The board of [6d][2s][2d][Tc][9c] changed nothing, and trionojnika departed the action with $82,555.20 for the fourth place finish.

Then it was RedIceRap on the shortest stack, and the all-in move was made with [Ac][Qh]. Peetoon made the call with only [Ks][7s], and the board looked like the best hand would hold as the flop came [8d][Js][5d] and the turn produced [6s]. But the [Kd] on the river gave Peetoon the pair of kings and the chips. RedIceRap was out in third place with $122,850.00 to soothe the pain.

Two talk deal and head into battle

The last two players were ready to go with the following chip counts:

Seat 4: FightnIrishh (31,053,756 in chips)
Seat 6: Peetoon (50,846,244 in chips)

But during the first hand of the match, both players decided to pause the tournament and take a look at the chip-chop numbers. In what might be record time, the amounts were given - $202,362.11 for Peetoon and $193,517.89 for fightnIrishh with $30,000 set aside for the eventual winner - and agreed upon. Play resumed almost immediately.

It took exactly 20 hands to decide the tournament. On that 20th hand, the two players went to check out a flop of [Js][Ad][3h]. FightnIrishh pushed the remainder of chips - 12,903,756 - all-in with [4h][3s] for bottom pair, and Peetoon called with [Ah][9s] for top pair. The [Kh] on the turn and [Jh] on the river ended the match, and FightnIrishh settled on second place and the $193,517.89 he received for it.

Peetoon became the latest Sunday Million winner and walked away with $232,362.11 for the accomplishment.

Pvas2 was number 1 with $233,943.87 in the 8/22 Sunday Million

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Sunday Million logo.jpgThe name is somewhat deceiving. The Sunday Million is actually the one tournament in the world of online poker that offers a whopping $1.5 million guarantee each week. But it's still called the Million, harkening back to the days when the guarantee was two-thirds of its current offering. Why not change the name of the tournament? Well, nothing else has quite the ring to it as the Million.

It just is.

This week, there was another solid turnout for the Million, as registration showed 7,798 players took to the tables for their chance at the $1.5 million. But when the $200 + $15 buy-ins were calculated, the prize pool jumped to $1,559,600, which was enough to pay out the top 1,170 finishers and reserve six-figure sums for the top three players.

As play moved on into the ninth hour, the final table neared, and hand-for-hand play prompted MettHelm to move all-in for his last chips with [Qc][Tc]. It just so happened that RichGilliard called with a dominating [Ah][Kd], and the board of [Ts][5h][9c][2h][Ac] rivered a win for RichGilliard and a tenth place finish for MettHelm. He walked away with $8,343.86 for bubbling the final table.

Pvas2 was number one, but eleach86 was in reach

Moments before the tournament hit its ten-hour mark, the final table was indeed set, and it was in the middle of Level 36, with blinds at 200,000/400,000 with a 40,000 ante. The starting chip counts for the nine players were as follows:

Seat 1: Dmitrych77 (5,027,866 in chips)
Seat 2: pvas2 (16,603,250 in chips)
Seat 3: RichGilliard (11,103,795 in chips)
Seat 4: joeywhatsup (1,863,863 in chips)
Seat 5: johnnylodden (10,063,412 in chips)
Seat 6: Chancew (4,908,115 in chips)
Seat 7: BWFCLEE (3,808,946 in chips)
Seat 8: eleach86 (11,213,654 in chips)
Seat 9: PremiumStud (13,387,099 in chips)

2010 Million final table 08.22.10.JPG

It was clear that this table was going to provide ample action for the railbirds who tuned in to see players compete for life-changing money. And with none other than Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden at the table, fans wanted to watch to see what he thought of it all.

The very first hand found joeywhatsup doubling through Lodden, though the latter still held on to a position within the top five on the leaderboard. Lodden experienced a true roller coaster ride to get to the final table, having been a short stack for awhile during two-table play and only recently having jumped back toward the top of the counts.

Three hands later, one of the shorter stacks made a move. Chancew took said chance by moving all-in for 4,148,115 chips with [Jh][8h], and it was eleach86 who called from the big blind with [Kd][Js]. The flop of [4s][3d][Kc] only helped eleach86 with the pair of kings, and the [5h] turn and [3h] river ended it all for Chancew, who finished in ninth place with $12,086.90.

Another double-up then saved BWFCLEE, courtesy of some of RichGilliard's chips.

Dmitrych77 was on quite the short stack in comparison to many others at the table, and his 2,228,866 chips went into the pot with [Ad][6d]. Pvas2 called from the small blind with [Ac][Jc], and that better starting hand held up through the dealing of the [Ks][7h][4s][7s][Ts] board. Dmitrych77 was sent away in eighth place with $17,935.40 for his troubles.

Eleach86 reaches for and finds the chip lead

With PremiumStud steadily moving toward the top of the leaderboard and holding a fairly comfortable second place spot there, things were about to take a turn. And that turn came from eleach86, who got involved in a monster pot that put PremiumStud in sudden jeopardy and changed the dynamic of the table:

RSS readers click through to see replay

PremiumStud saw his stack reduced even further, though he eventually doubled through eleach86 to stay in the game.

Joeywhatsup wasn't so lucky. Taking a chance by moving all-in preflop with [As][Ac] seemed like the right move at the time, and when pvas2 called with [Qh][Jd], it looked like a double-up was in the works. But the board had other ideas. Grand ideas, in fact, as the the [Kd][Ad][Td][Qd][9c] gave pvas2 the royal flush. Royal flush! That's one way to beat pocket aces, and joeywhatsup exited in painful fasion with $31,192.00 to console him for the seventh place finish.

Lodden was soon able to double through RichGilliard to stay alive, and then a huge pot developed that had two players at risk. RichGilliard was all-in with K-Q, BWFCLEE was all-in with pocket tens, and eleach86 called with A-7. The board of 4-K-J-J-3 gave BWFCLEE the side pot and some relief, and RichGIlliard tripled up by grabbing the main pot. And eleach86 began to lose the massive lead that was comfortable for so short a time.

Pvas2 returns to the top

As eleach86 lost chips rather consistently over the course of several hands, it was pvas2 who capitalized on the trend and took some rather significant pots in order to jump into the lead. Pvas2 took a 12 million-chip pot from eleach86, followed by another worth 17.5 million chips, and suddenly pvas2 towered over his opponents with more than 40 million chips.

The very short-stacked RichGilliard pushed his last 1,095,565 chips all-in with [Kd][8h], and Lodden was able to call with [Ks][Ts]. The board brought nothing to change the standings when it came [Kh][7s][9c][2d][Qd], and Lodden's ten played to give him the pot. RichGilliard was out of the tournament in sixth place with $46,788.00.

The last Team PokerStars Pro standing was finally put to the test. When pvas2 came in for a preflop raise, Lodden reraised all-in for 8,615,118 chips from the small blind holding [Ah][9c]. But pvas2 called and showed the better [Ad][Th]. Though a series of bad beats at the final table made anything possible, the board of [5d][Td][4s][8s][5h] disagreed and allowed the best hand to hold. That eliminated Johnny Lodden in fifth place with $62,384.00.

And yes, Lodden most likely thinks that a win would have been better.

Johnny Lodden 2010.jpg

After a successful double-up by eleach86 through pvas2, another player was bound to try it. BWFCLEE did just that with [Ad][2s], but it was pvas2 who had [Kh][8c] and found immediate help on the [8h][Js][7d] flop. The [5s] on the turn and [Jh] on the river put an end to BWFCLEE's tournament, and the payout was $78,603.84 for fourth place.

Let's make this quick, shall we?

Three-handed play didn't last long, only long enough to see PremiumStud chip up quite significantly to solidify his position just under chip leader pvas2.

Short-stacked eleach86 made the all-in move with [Ad][Qc] for his last 17,915,942 chips, and original raiser pvas2 called with [7c][7h]. The flop was a double-edged sword, as the [As][2d][7d] gave eleach86 the pair of aces but made a set of sevens for pvas2. The [Jh] on the turn and [Qd] on the river ended the event for eleach86, who took home $116,970.00 for the third place finish.

Heads-up play then began with the following chip counts:

Seat 2: pvas2 (50,162,666 in chips)
Seat 9: PremiumStud (27,817,334 in chips)

Both players wished each other good luck in the chat box, and on the third hand, the chips were in. The hand started with a raise from PremiumStud, reraise from pvas2, and all-in move from PremiumStud. Pvas2 called with [7c][7d], which clearly worked before, and PremiumStud showed [Ac][Qs], which didn't work so well for the third place finisher. And the board was willing to let the hands stand as it produced [8h][6c][6h][Jd][Th]. PremiumStud did not have the premium hand but did receive $171,556.00 for second place.

Pvas2 won the Sunday Million with those pocket sevens, and the title was awarded with a solid $233,943.87 first place prize.

Blumenkind53 Bests Tough Table to Grab Sunday Million Victory

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Sunday Million logo.jpgMost people spend their Sunday nights winding down from busy weekend activities and preparing for the week ahead. Though if you're one of eight skilled players in Tallinn, Estonia, you might be picking out some clothes for the final table of the first stop on Season 7 of the European Poker Tour. And if your name is Nauv Kashyap, you're likely winding down from celebrating your ANZPT victory. However, if not included in those groups of people, there isn't much reason not to play the Sunday Million on PokerStars.

There were 8,294 players who decided to take a shot at this week's $1.5 million guarantee, though when their buy-ins were added up, the prize pool came to $1,658,800.00. That is the kind of money that makes a Sunday night the most exciting evening of the week!

When the tournament played through several hours, the money bubble burst and allowed the final 1,260 players to be paid, but there were five- and six-figure payouts awaiting at the final table... But only nine players would make it there. During hand-for-hand play for those nine seats, it just so happened that short-stacked vhyper moved all-in and got two callers. Legreat00 and Charlie Ivey checked down the board of [8h][9c][7s][8s][5c], and Charlie Ivey showed [8c][2s] to win the pot with trip eights. Vhyper simply mucked the mystery hand and left in tenth place with $8,791.64.

YouHave2outs had chip lead at the start

The tenth hour of the tournament was underway when the final table was set, and Level 36, with its 200,000/400,000 blinds and 40,000 ante was almost over. Starting chip counts were listed as follows:

Seat 1: RAZZER777 (10,100,093 in chips)
Seat 2: blumenkind53 (5,388,896 in chips)
Seat 3: bogg (4,921,510 in chips)
Seat 4: D0CKENFL0P (10,595,520 in chips)
Seat 5: lolriverdnky (7,983,088 in chips)
Seat 6: YouHave2outs (15,624,058 in chips)
Seat 7: legreat00 (7,419,434 in chips)
Seat 8: The Pot SWE (11,303,075 in chips)
Seat 9: Charlie Ivey (9,604,326 in chips)

2010 Million final table 08.15.10.JPG

It only took three hands for the shortest stack at the table to move. Bogg did it preflop with [Ad][Jc], but original raiser blumenkind53 called with none other than [Ah][As]. The board could not produce the few outs that would have helped bogg when it came [Kc][4c][3d][3h][3s], and the aces turned into a full house to knock out bogg in ninth place, which was worth a $12,855.70 payday.

No one afraid of the all-in move

Things started moving along quickly. And YouHave2outs moved down the leaderboard as others began to take charge.

The first huge pot of the final table action resulted in one player going home. The hand started with a raise from YouHave2outs, and an all-in reraise from legreat00 prompted The Pot SWE to move all-in over the top. That pushed YouHave2outs out of the hand, and The Pot SWE showed a solid [Kc][Ks]. Legreat00 had outs with [Ah][Tc], and the flop was cooperating when it came [7c][Qs][Th]. But the [2d] on the turn didn't help, and the [Kd] on the river only gave The Pot SWE the set of kings and...well...the pot. Legreat00 departed in eighth place with $18,246.80 to show for it.

It wasn't long before another big pot developed. This one began with Charlie Ivey pushing all-in preflop for 5.8 million, RAZZER777 reraising all-in for 10 million, and lolriverdnky calling both players from the big blind. The hands?

lolriverdnky: [Jh][Js]
RAZZER777: [Qd][Qc]
Charlie Ivey: [Ac][Th]

The board came [7d][8s][4h][9h][Kh], and RAZZER777 collected all of the chips, leaving lolriverdnky short-stacked and Charlie Ivey out of the tournament in seventh place with $33,176.00.

The last 692,995 chips of lolriverdnky went all-in from the small blind on the very next hand with [Qs][3h], and The Pot SWE was there for the ride with [Kh][Jd]. The board brought [8c][As][Kc][Qh][5h], and the pair of queens couldn't outdraw the pair of kings. That left lolriverdnky out in sixth place with $49,764.00.

Without much of a slowdown in the action, another all-in came about when D0CKENFL0P pushed his remaining 5,735,520 into the pot preflop with [4h][4s], but blumenkind53 didn't hesitate to call from the big blind with [Td][Tc]. The board of [Qd][Kd][Ks][2d][Kc] gave both players full houses, but blumenkind53's was best. D0CKENFL0P took leave of the table in fifth place with $66,352.00.

Let's make a multi-lingual deal!

The remaining four players decided to pause the tournament to discuss a potential deal, though RAZZER777 had trouble understanding English. But The Pot SWE was kind enough to translate in Swedish, and RAZZER777 ultimately agreed to look at some chip-chop numbers. The information was provided to the players, and after some chat about it, they all agreed. The following payouts were set, with the knowledge that the ultimate winner would receive an extra $30,000 for the victory.

Seat 1: RAZZER777 (26,554,512 in chips) = $168,720.26
Seat 2: blumenkind53 (14,810,136 in chips) = $130,781.86
Seat 6: YouHave2outs (21,094,058 in chips) = $151,081.10
Seat 8: The Pot SWE (20,481,294 in chips) = $149,101.66

Please fasten your seatbelts.

The next few rounds were a scrambled bit of poker. It all happened in a matter of a short period of time. Blumenkind53 doubled through The Pot SWE and then took a 12.5 million-chip pot from RAZZER777. The Pot SWE then doubled back through blumenkind53 and grabbed a subsequent 10 million chips in another pot to climb into third place. YouHave2outs doubled through blumenkind53, who then doubled through The Pot SWE.

Got that?

Then The Pot SWE decided to move all-in again, this time with [Ah][4c] from the big blind. His 10,718,376 chips were at risk but dominating the hand when RAZZER777 called with [Ac][3d]. The flop of [9c][4s][Kd] solidified The Pot SWE's lead in the hand, but the [3s] on the turn was a scare card for certain. And the [3c] hit hard on the turn, giving RAZZER777 the trip threes and knocking The Pot SWE out of the tournament in fourth place, which was worth $149,101.66.

The next hand saw blumenkind53 double through YouHave2outs, and that prompted the latter to move all-in on the very next hand. YouHave2outs did it with [Ah][4h], and blumenkind53 showed only [6c][5d] but caught the [2c][3h][6d] flop. The turn of [Ts] and river of [3d] ended the tournament for YouHave2outs, who couldn't hit his outs but took home $151,081.10 for the third place finish.

Heads-up play then began with these starting chip counts:

Seat 1: RAZZER777 (34,645,478 in chips)
Seat 2: blumenkind53 (48,294,522 in chips)

The match began with blumenkind53 expanding on his chip lead, and a 25 million-chip pot helped in that quest quite a bit. But RAZZER777 did come back to double through his opponent to jump into the lead for a short time. However, the following hand put blumenkind53 back on top:

RSS readers click through to see replay

It didn't take long for RAZZER777 to risk it again. His 16,761,912 went all-in with [4h][4d], and blumenkind53 called with [Ac][6h]. The flop came [Kd][As][2c] to give blumenkind53 the pair of aces, and the [5c] on the turn and [Qc] on the river brought it to an end. RAZZER777 was gone in second place with $168,720.26.

And blumenkind53 won the Sunday Million, for which he was awarded $160,781.86 and the most sought-after weekly poker title in the game.

Near-miss turns to sure thing for cmis91, the August 8 Sunday Million champion

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Sunday Million logo.jpgIt was a busy time of year for PokerStars. The Latin American Poker Tour just wrapped its latest stop in Brazil with a new champion, and the European Poker Tour was days away from kicking off its seventh exciting season.

But no matter the pace or location of the various land tours, one thing was certain. Each and every week, the PokerStars Sunday Million would bring together players from around the globe for the biggest poker tournament on the internet. This week, the guarantee of a $1.5 million prize pool attracted 8,202 players, which made for a solid $1,640,400 prize pool. It was enough to pay out the top 1,170 finishers, with six-figure payouts set aside for the top three finishers. And poker enthusiasts everywhere turned on their computers to watch the final table of the weekly festivities.

The tournament had to find its final table first, though, and it happened just past the 9.5-hour mark. N7a7t7e pushed all-in preflop from the big blind, and original raiser cmis91 made the call with [Ks][9c], which was ahead of the [Qd][Jd] of n7a7t7e. The board concurred as it came [2d][Ts][8c][4s][7s], and that was the end of n7a7t7e's tournament, for which $8,776.14 was awarded for the tenth place finish.

Cmis91 did not miss out on the initial lead

In the midst of Level 35, with blinds at 150,000/300,000 and an ante of 30,000, the final table was set and ready to go. Starting chip counts were listed as follows:

2010 Million final table 08.08.10.JPG

Snow in June doubled up through knecht_poker on the very first hand, and cmis91 soon lost the chip lead to Tonimonntana. It was going to be a wild ride at the final table.

Knecht_poker was short-stacked and looking for a spot to move. The hand actually started with three players, though, as knecht_poker's raise was called by Snow in June and oneleg1896. After the flop came [5h][Jd][4s], knecht_poker made that all-in move, and Snow in June was the only caller holding [9s][9d]. Knecht_poker was caught with only [Ac][9c] for ace high. The [Th] on the river changed nothing, and the [Jc] on the river only paired the board and shipped the pot to Snow in June. The first one to exit the table was knecht_poker, who took $12,713.10 for the ninth place finish.

From there, it didn't take long to find another early casualty. A raise from cmis91 was met with an all-in move from oneleg1896, at which point pocktnizzles moved all-in over the top to isolate, which worked as cmis91 got out of the way. Pocktnizzles showed [As][Kc], which did dominate the [Ah][Qh] of oneleg1896. The flop of [Js][3h][Tc] was interesting with its straight possibilities, but the [9c] turn and [Jh] river erased those hopes, and oneleg1896 was out in eighth place with $18,864.60.

See cmis91 back in command

Play then slowed quite a bit, as round after round brought raises and folds. There was a point that alwaysnice was able to double through Tunnelvisie, but those two players still stayed near the bottom of the leaderboard for awhile. But though pocktnizzles was climbing the leaderboard, it was cmis91 seeking that top chip position back again. And it happened in dramatic fashion here:

RSS readers click through to see replay

With pocktnizzles on the short stack and falling, the final all-in move came with his final 1,783,712 chips and [Kd][3d]. Cmis91 called from the big blind with [Ad][2d], and the board blanked with [4d][8h][Ts][8s][9d]. And just like that, pocktnizzles was gone in seventh place, which was worth $32,808.00.

In short order, another elimination moved things along. It was lehout who pushed all-in for 4,092,490 chips holding [Jd][7d], but Tunnelvisie called from the small blind with [Th][Tc]. Lehout was going to need help, but none of it was to be had on the board of [8d][3h][9s][6d][6c]. Tunnelvisie scooped the pot with two pair, and lehout exited the tournament in sixth place with $49,212.00 for the effort.

Alwaysnice took another chance with an all-in move and doubled through cmis91 with a rivered set over the flopped set of cmis91. That finally moved alwaysnice off the bottom chip position, though cmis91 still sat fairly comfortably at the top.

Meanwhile, Tunnelvisie was looking for a proper all-in spot and found it preflop with [Ad][9h], but Tonimonntana moved all-in over the top. No one else wanted to tangle, and Tonimonntana showed [8c][8s]. When the flop came [5s][5c][5d], Tonimonntana's hand turned into a full house, and not the [4h] turn nor the [Qh] river would change that. Tunnelvisie was ousted in fifth place with $65,616.00.

And...action!

Final table play got very interesting. Four-handed play went on for a few rounds of play before alwaysnice eventually pushed all-in with [2h][2s], but Snow in June called from the big blind with [5d][5c]. The better pocket pair stood up to the [7s][4c][9c][Tc][Jd] board, which eliminated alwaysnice in fourth place with $82,676.16.

Three-handed action was a bit frantic, as Tonimonntana doubled through Snow in June. The very next hand saw Snow in June double through cmis91, and the hand after that brought a double-up for Tonimonntana through cmis91.

Snow in June was trying to recover from blow a few hands prior, and the all-in move was made with [Tc][8c]. But Tonimonntana just so happened to have [Ah][Kh] and the lead in the hand. The board then produced [Qc][2h][Jh][Ac][Ts], which made Tonimonntana's hand into a straight. Snow in June was eliminated in August, taking home $123,030.00 for the third place finish.

Tonimonntana scarred

The heads-up battle began with the following chip counts:

Seat 1: Tonimonntana (53,674,604 in chips)
Seat 4: cmis91 (28,345,396 in chips)

Only a few hands into the action, cmis91 made a move that was do-or-die. And cmis91 did this:

Cmis91 never looked back. Tonimonntana took some key pots but couldn't get past cmis91's solid lead. Finally, Tonimonntana pushed with [8h][6h], and cmis91 called with a dominating [Kh][Qh]. The flop of [Ad][9h][5s] made things interesting with the straight draw for Tonimonntana, but the [Kd] on the turn gave cmis91 the pair of kings. A [2c] came on the river to end the tournament, and Tonimonntana was out in second place with $180,444.00.

Cmis91 won the August 8th Sunday Million and walked away with a solid $246,064.05 for the victory.

Aqua44 Swims to Victory in August 1 Sunday Million

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Sunday Million logo.jpgIt was the first Sunday in August. What better way to ring in a new month and celebrate the warm weather than by curling up with a computer for a day of online poker tournament action?

That was exactly the notion of 8,197 players who chose to take part in the weekly Sunday Million. There was the enticing guarantee of $1.5 million as a guarantee, though the registration number jolted that prize pool all the way to $1,639,400, which allowed the top 1,170 players to be paid for their efforts.

Only ten players got close to the final table and the five- and six-figure payouts available there, and one had to go before that money came into play. It happened during hand-for-hand play when phillly_aces8 decided to risk everything with [Th][9d] from the big blind, and SoonerCT22 was there with [As][5d]. The board came [6s][4h][7h][2h][2d], and the pair of deuces played in order to eliminated philly_aces8 in tenth place, which was worth $8,770.79.

SoonerCT22 and TBONE1987 battle for lead from the start

A bit past the 9.5-hour mark of the tournament, the final table was set and ready to go. Level 35 welcomed them into action with blinds at 150,000/300,000 and a 30,000 ante, and their starting chip counts were listed as follows:

Seat 1: aaaaaaaa (5,373,078 in chips)
Seat 2: LottoMartin (10,580,048 in chips)
Seat 3: TBONE1987 (16,278,045 in chips)
Seat 4: SingleFileD (4,434,043 in chips)
Seat 5: aqua44 (7,925,923 in chips)
Seat 6: idacir_bra (6,552,512 in chips)
Seat 7: mas_da_masta (5,313,298 in chips)
Seat 8: SoonerCT22 (16,423,874 in chips)
Seat 9: Coyotee_gyn (9,089,179 in chips)

2010 Million final table 08.01.10.JPG

Action was to be had on the very first hand. TBONE1987 was itching to take over the lead and pushed all-in from the small blind with [Ah][2s], and SingleFileD risked the short stack from the big blind by calling all-in with [4d][4s]. That pair held up through the [Qd][7h][6d] flop, but the [As] hit on the turn to give TBONE1987 the pair of aces and the lead. The river brought a [3h], which eliminated SingleFileD in ninth place with $12,705.35.

Next on the short stack list was aaaaaaaa, and the all-in move came only a few hands into the final table. After an initial raise from Coyotee_gyn, aaaaaaaa reraised all-in for 4,568,078 chips with [Tc][Ts]. It folded back around to Coyotee_gyn, who called with [As][Kd]. The race was on, but not for long, as the board brought [Qh][8h][Ac][2c][9s] to give Coyotee_gyn the pair of aces. Aaaaaaaa might have been the sound of the scream heard when the flop dropped, but it was definitely the name of the eighth place finisher, who took home $18,853.10 for the effort.

The next big hand involved mas_da_masta, who started with a raise from early position, and TBONE1987, who called. After seeing a flop of [4c][Th][Kh], a bet and call led them to the [6s] on the turn. Mas_da_masta then checked, but when TBONE1987 bet, mas_da_masta raised all-in for 4,501,974 chips. TBONE1987 called with [5d][3d] and the straight draw, and mas_da_masta showed [As][Td] for the flopped pair of tens. But that hand didn't hold up when the [7d] dropped on the river to make the straight for TBONE1987, and mas_da_masta was eliminated in seventh place with $32,788.00.

LottoMartin plays the double-up lottery

The next few rounds of play got interesting. The first double-up came from idacir_bra, who stayed alive courtesy of TBONE1987. But the second came from LottoMartin, the short-stacked player who declined to look at chip-chop numbers when the conversation came up in the chat box. Steadily chipping up was LottoMartin, and a big double-up through TBONE1987 left the latter on the short stack and LottoMartin on the move.

When Coyotee_gyn decided to risk his stack of 11,310,226 from the small blind, LottoMartin was there to make the call from the big blind with [Ad][9d], which dominated the [Kh][9c] of Coyotee_gyn. The board blanked with [Jh][4s][Tc][2h][5h], and the ace-high was enough to send Coyotee_gyn packing in sixth place with $49,182.00.

LottoMartin was suddenly in the chip lead of the final five players, but it didn't last long, as TBONE1987 and aqua44 both doubled through him. It was clearly anyone's game at that point.

With LottoMartin back on the short stack, he tried again, this time with a preflop all-in raise for his 8,889,741 chips. SoonerCT22 called from the big blind with [As][Th], and LottoMartin was caught holding [7h][5h]. After the flop of [8d][Js][8c], LottoMartin called for a 5 in the chat box, but it didn't come as the turn was [2c] and the river [6d]. SoonerCT22 scooped the chips, and LottoMartin departed in fifth place with $65,576.00.

Aqua44 floats to the top

Waiting for the right moments paid off for aqua44. The next elimination was one of those moments, as TBONE1987 risked the last of his chips with [Ad][6d], and aqua44 was there with [Ts][Td] with which to make the call. That prompted the board to come [Qc][5d][8d][2h][Th] to give aqua44 the set of tens and eliminate TBONE1987 in fourth place with $82,625.76.

Aqua44 held a solid chip lead over the other two remaining players, but SoonerCT22 found a key opportunity for a double-up through idacir_bra at just the right time:

RSS readers click through to see replay

Things moved quickly from there. Idacir_bra was on a very short stack and finally moved all-in preflop with [5d][5s]. Aqua44 made the call with [Ks][Jc] and hit the flop of [4d][As][Kd] to take the lead with the kings. The [7c] on the turn and [8s] on the river ended the hand and sent idacir_bra away in third place with $122,955.00.

Only a few laps to go...

The heads-up match started with the following chip counts:

Seat 5: aqua44 (51,866,530 in chips)
Seat 8: SoonerCT22 (30,103,470 in chips)

It only took six hands for SoonerCT22 to make a move, and a preflop raising war resulted in SoonerCT22 pushing all-in with [Ad][Qs]. The race was on when aqua44 displayed [7d][7s], but the board of [Jc][2c][Kd][5h][9h] brought nothing for either player, and the sevens held up. SoonerCT22 was out in second place with $180,334.00 to show for it.

Aqua44 claimed victory in the August 1st Sunday Million, and the prestigious title came with an impressive $245,914.05 in prize money.

BarneyR2005 beats B Buddy to grab nearly $245K and Sunday Million title

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Sunday Million logo.jpgThe last Sunday of each month is special. Not only are the regular Sunday tournaments on tap for players looking for the biggest guarantees and best fields on the internet, but PokerStars hosts some special tournaments for its players. There is the Battle of the Planets, a freeroll competition solely for the top players on the weekly sit-n-go leaderboards with a $50K prize pool. And there is the $1,000,000 Turbo Takedown, a stellar prize pool set up for anyone with 3,000 Frequent Player Points, and a tournament that puts bounties on PokerStars Team Pros as well as awards an Audi TT to the ultimate winner. So July 25 was kinda a big deal.

And then there was the Sunday Million, the biggest guarantee in online poker's weekly offerings. With its standard buy-in of $200 + $15, the guarantee was set at $1.5 million, and players couldn't have been more anxious to take a chance at it. That resulted in a registration number of 8,319, which prompted the prize pool to grow to $1,663,800.00. As the tournament moved forward, the top 1,260 players were paid for their efforts, and the final table neared after a few more hours.

Finally, it was during hand-for-hand action that marlin5555 put his tournament on the line with an all-in move for 2,703,411 chips. Original raiser B Buddy folded, but dehoo called from the big blind with [Ad][9d]. Marlin5555 showed [Ac][Tc] for the chance to double-up, but the [8c][Qs][Ah][9h][2c] board did not agree. The two pair eliminated marlin5555 in tenth place, for which he was awarded $8,818.14.

B Buddy making no friends, only taking names

It was about 15 minutes shy of the ten-hour mark of the tournament that the final table was set, and it happened in the middle of Level 35, with blinds at 200,000/400,000 and a 40,000 ante. The starting chip counts were as follows:

Seat 1: nenita02 (2,691,048 in chips)
Seat 2: BarneyR2005 (12,323,682 in chips)
Seat 3: BWFCLEE (3,469,267 in chips)
Seat 4: Cukbandit (4,317,891 in chips)
Seat 5: dehoo (17,750,105 in chips)
Seat 6: RonaldKosh (13,404,071 in chips)
Seat 7: bostero27 (5,798,694 in chips)
Seat 8: kirbyi17 (2,479,980 in chips)
Seat 9: B Buddy (20,955,262 in chips)

2010 Million final table 07.25.10.JPG

B Buddy came on strong as action got underway, as it only took a few hands for the chip leader to grab another 15 million chips from dehoo. Soon after, B Buddy neared the 30 million chip range to solidify that lead.

But it was one of the shorter stacks who chose to get involved next. BWFCLEE made the decision to risk 2,809,267 chips with [Ac][Qc] preflop, and original raiser BarneyR2005 called with [Ts][Th]. The race was on until the [Tc][As][8s] flop hit to give BarneyR2005 the set of tens. The [7s] on the turn changed nothing, and the [Qd] on the river was too little too late for BWFCLEE, who finished the tournament in ninth place with $12,894.45.

A few rounds later, another battle between dehoo and B Buddy ensued, as the two got involved to see the flop of [8c][9c][5s]. Dehoo was the first to bet, and B Buddy check-raised. Dehoo responded with an all-in move for 9,513,105 chips, and B Buddy made the call with [Ah][9h] for top pair. Dehoo showed [Qc][Tc] for the flush draw, but the [5h] turn and [2d] left him still waiting. And the eighth place prize of $18,301.80 was awarded to dehoo.

One of the original short stacks, kirbyi17, saw his stack cut in half during the first few rounds of action, and the all-in move came for his remaining 1,079,980 chips from the small blind with [Kc][8d]. B Buddy was in the big blind and made the call with only [3s][2s], but the flop came [4d][5c][Ad] to give him the straight. The board completed with [Ac] and [Qs], and that eliminated kirbyi17 in seventh place with $33,276.00.

Play was moving along at a fairly rapid pace thus far, and it wasn't letting up. Bostero27 moved all-in preflop for just less than 2 million chips, and nenita02 called with [Ac][Tc], which dominated the [As][4d] of bostero27. The board was a rather uneventful [2d][8h][8s][7c][8d], and that sent bostero27 packing in sixth place, which was worth $49,914.00.

No deal to see here, just keep it moving

Talks of seeing chip-chop numbers were quickly squashed when B Buddy, who then had more than 40 million chips, explained succinctly that he was not interested in a deal. With that, they moved on.

But everyone didn't move on for long. Cukbandit was down to little more than 1 million chips and pushed it preflop with [As][4h]. BarneyR2005 called from the big blind with [7c][4c] and hit the flop immediately when it came [7d][Td][Jd]. That pair of sevens held as the [Jc] turned and the [3h] rivered to end the hand. Cukbandit was gone in fifth place with $66,552.00.

And in the time it took to write up the last hand, another all-in was in progress. RonaldKosh made a big push preflop with [Ac][9s] and 8,094,071 in chips. BarneyR2005 called from the big blind with [7d][7s]. Another race was on, but the [8s][3s][7c] put the kibosh on that by giving BarneyR2005 the set of sevens. The [5d] and [2s] completed the hand, and RonaldKosh was sent off in fourth place with $83,190.00.

Striking distance

The last hand put BarneyR2005 within close striking distance of B Buddy, and the gap quickly closed as the two battled for the chip lead. It was the first time during final table action that B Buddy had someone to worry about.

And a short while after, the following hand resulted in a change of the lead:

RSS readers click through to see replay

Still in swift play mode, a big hand developed that started with B Buddy raising all-in and nenita02 calling all-in for 5,701,838 chips. B Buddy showed only [5d][3d], and nenita02 dominated with [Ks][Js]. But B Buddy caught a five on the [4c][8c][5s] flop, and the [Ac] turn and [9h] allowed that pair to stand. Nenita02 went out in third place with $124,785.00.

How the table turns so quickly

The two players were heads-up before the 10.5-hour mark, and it was BarneyR2005 on top as the chip counts showed:

Seat 2: BarneyR2005 (43,831,754 in chips)
Seat 9: B Buddy (39,358,246 in chips)

The battle ensued and found both players taking the chip lead at various points during the match, but BarneyR2005 refused to let up on the aggression. Finally, with BarneyR2005 holding more than 70 million of the chips in play, B Buddy took a chance with [Ah][7s]. BarneyR2005 called with [9d][7d], and the board came [9h][Ks][7h][4d][4c] to give BarneyR2005 the best two pair. That left B Buddy eliminated in second place with $178,858.50.

BarneyR2005 claimed victory in the July 25th edition of the Sunday Million, and the reward was $244,749.39 and the coveted title.

Sunday Million: ROMDOM caps off a very good day with a Million victory

Monday, July 19th, 2010

sunday-million-thumb.jpg

Well, after more than a month of competing directly with the biggest event on the poker calender, the World Series of Poker, things have returned to normal, as the Million broke its guarantee for the first time in weeks. Yes, the day after the November Nine was set 8,027 players turned their attention from Vegas to the online tables, creating a prize pool of 1,605,400. Among the over eight thousand runners was a slew of PokerStars pros, undoubtedly looking to build on their summer successes with a nice showing in the Million. At the end of the day three PokerStars team pros managed to reach the virtual payout cage, online wizards Randy "nanonko" Lew (604th for $465.56) and Mandy "ROXY24" Thomas (360th for $610.05) as well as someone who knows quite a bit about making Main Event final tables Canadian team pro Darus Suharto (248th for $706.37). Even with the PokerStars pros on the rail, final table play was, as usual, no less skillful. First, however, we had to get there.

Can't Fold to Victory

The march down to the final nine started off in a rather unusual way. bobbbyz2260, who was among the chip leader from 250 players down to 50, for whatever reason sat out from about 50 players left until his eventual exit in 20th.

sitting out.JPG
Well, it's certainly an unorthodox strategy

bobbbyz2260's sitting out, top 20 finish marked the beginning of a slow crawl to the final table, with tight play--albeit not as tight as bobbbyz2260's play--being the theme of the final two tables.

Eventually, the blinds became too much for TigerRam723, who open shoved all-in from the small blind for a little under 1.3 million. TigerRam723 was almost instantly called by bigbadbandit in the big blind, who showed [Ac] [8h]. TigerRam723 was behind, revealing [Ks] [9d], and fell even further behind after a flop of [Qh] [2c] [Ad] gave bigbadbandit top pair. TigerRam723's rail desperately called for a king, jack, nine or ten to make things more interesting, but alas for his supporters another ace came on the turn, locking the pot up for bigbadbandit. The [6h] on the river fell as mere formality and our final nine was set, TigerRam723 collecting $8,588.89 for his tenth place effort.

Seat 1: Cherniysv (6173234 in chips)
Seat 2: gator93 (12930596 in chips)
Seat 3: Dk4884 (15427370 in chips)
Seat 4: bigbadbandit (10375940 in chips)
Seat 5: ROMDOM (13206594 in chips)
Seat 6: ROPUSZKA (3327986 in chips)
Seat 7: aiglix (6547667 in chips)
Seat 8: Dantes_11 (8117631 in chips)
Seat 9: vinifenomeno (4162982 in chips)

Dk4884 led almost the entire way from 50 players down to the final nine, sometimes holding a commanding double second place stack. However, extended bubble play had allowed bigbadbandit (1 million), gator93 (12.9 million) and ROMDOM (13.2 million) to creep up on Dk4884's leading, 15.4 million chip stack. Conversely, former tourney chip leader ROPUSZKA had some work to do, wielding a small 3.3 million chip stack. Blinds were 100k/200k with a 20k ante as players reassembled at table 149 for final nine play.

Can We Speed This Up a Bit Guys?

The slow play continued for 22 hands before the final table found its first elimination. ROPUSZKA started of the action, raising to 750k from middle position. Cherniysv, on the button, decided he wanted to play for more and shoved his shortish 4.6 million chips stack into the middle. Notable online pro and former SCOOP winner Frank "gator93" Hernandez followed suit with Cherniysv in the small blind, and moved all-in over the top for 10.6 million. Action swung back to ROPUSZKA, who folded. When the cards were finally turned up it was Cherniysv who had some work to do, his [Ah] [Qc] running up against gator93's [Qs] [Qh]. An aceless [Ks] [6h] [6s] [8h] [4h] board spelled the end for Cherniysv, who took home $12,441.85 for his ninth place finish.

Whoa, Hold Up Now!

With a rust finally shook off, the eliminations came fast and furious. Just one hand after Cherniysv's exit, ROPUSZKA pushed his 2.4 million chip short stack in the middle from second position only to be called by Dk4884 in the small blind and ROMDOM, who had limped in under the gun. ROMDOM and Dk4884 checked down a [8h] [4d] [3h] [Jh] [9c] board, ROMDOM flipping up two queens at the end, which was good enough to win the pot. ROPUSZKA exits in eighth, $18,462.10 richer.

Seven hands later and another player hits the rail. bigbadbandit begins the action with a raise to 750k from under the gun. A short stacked vinifenomeno then moves all-in over the top of bigbadbandit for a little over 2.4 million and bigbadbandit makes the call. The news is good for vinifenomeno, whose [Ac] [Qs] is dominating bigbadbandit's [Kd] [Qh]. vinifenomeno extended his lead after a [10d] [kh] [Ad] flop gave him top pair and retained his lead after the [10c] on the turn paired up the board, leaving bigbadbandit drawing dead to a king for the win and a jack to tie. BING! The [Kc] falls on the river and brutally relieves vinifenomeno from the final table in seventh ($32,108).

Gator Finishes His Meal

Dk4884 was a chip leader for most of the tournament, but sometimes it just takes one hand to send you packing. Dk4884 starts things off with a raise to 900k from under the gun and is called by gator93 in the big blind. After a gator93 check a [9c] [4d] [Jd] flop Dk4884 leads out again with a 1.3 million chip bet only to be check raised to 2.7 million by gator93. Dk4884 calls and we go to the turn. The [Qc] falls next and gator93 continues his aggression with a 4.5 million chip bet. gator93 almost immediately answers by shoving all-in for 9.7 million total. gator93 snap calls, revealing [9d] [9h] for middle set. Dk4884 finds himself drawing dead with his [As] [Qs] and, after a [7s] falls on the turn, is crippled down to just 88k. One hand later gator93 finishes the job, his [Ks] [Jh] holding against Dk4884's [Qh] [Js]. Dk4884 goes home in sixth, good for a $48,162 payday.

Dante's Inferno

Twenty-six hands after Dk4884's elimination the Million got down to a final four. Dantes_11 moves all-in from the cutoff with just 4.4 million in chips only to be raised up to 8.4 million by a cruising gator93 on the button. Both blinds fold and we are heads-up for Dantes_11's tournament life. It's not good for Dantes_11, his [Kc] [10s] is crushed by gator93's [Ks] [Qs]. It's even worse after a [Qc] [2s] [As] not only pairs gator93, but gives him the nut flush draw. Looking for a miracle, Dantes_11's prayers go unanswered after the [6d] and [10c] come on the turn and river respectively. Dantes_11 is out in fifth, taking a $64,216 payday home in consolation.

And aiglix Makes Four

Playing witness to a number of big hands following Dantes_11's exit, a short stacked aiglix finally picks his spot. After an 825k raise by ROMDOM on the button, aiglix pushes all-in from the small blind for 9.6 million. gator93, whose 34.3 million chip stack has the table nearly covered, then moves all-in over the top and ROMDOM gets out of the way. gator93 is far ahead with [10c] [10d] versus aiglix's [Ah] [5d]. Initially looking for an ace, a [3d] [6c] [Ks] [7s] flop and turn provides aiglix with an additional four outs, a four completing for him a straight. However, a mocking river comes one card too high, the [5c], and gator93's stack swells to over 40 million while aiglex is sent packing in fourth ($80,912.16).

Deal Time?

With three remaining deal talks intensified, prompting tourney moderator and PokerStars pro Jose "Nacho" Barbero to pause the action. Numbers were thrown around, but just when a deal looked assured short stacked bigbadbandit pulled out of the chop stating, "You had your chance gator, I'm gonna take this one down."

Bold statements aside, here's how we looked with three left and blinds at 200k/400k with a 40k ante:

Seat 2: gator93 (44976726 in chips)
Seat 4: bigbadbandit (15635708 in chips)
Seat 5: ROMDOM (19657566 in chips)

bigbadbandit Not Prophetic

The hand after the three person deal's failure and bigbadbandit's guarantee bigbadbandit managed to double through gator93, seemingly putting him on track to finish off his said goal. However, things fell apart for bigbadbandit from there, eventually resulting in a stand against gator93. In a battle of the blinds gator93 raises to 1.3 million from the small blind. bigbadbandit answers by moving all-in for 8.1 million and gator93 makes the call. It proves to be a good spot for bigbadbandit, who turns up [Ad] [Js] versus gator93's [Ah] [10h]. The flop holds bigbadbandit's lead, falling [7d] [Qs] [5h], but the [6h] on the turn gives gator93 a flush draw. No flush for gator93 on the river, instead the [10s] comes pairing gator93 up and eliminating bigbadbandit in third ($120,405).

Deal Time

bigbadbandit's exit opened the chop talks back up and after first discussing a strict chip-chop the final two players decided on an even $192k for the slightly outchipped gator93 and 195,408.05 for ROMDOM.

DEAL TIME!.JPG
Deal Time!

With three left, and 30k left on the table for the eventual winner, here is how the deal finally broke down:

ROMDOM: $195,408.05
gator93: $192,00.00

A Good Day for ROMDOM

ROMDOM, who gave up $2,400 to gator93 from a strict chip-chop, joked that he only agreed to gator93's deal because he'd been having a good day. Good day might be an understatement. Not only was ROMDOM poised for victory, his 48 million chip stack well ahead of gator93's 32 million one, he scored another big win earlier in the day, taking down the 75k guaranteed $11 reBuy tournament, good for over $13k.

ROMDOM's earlier success didn't mean that he was satisfied with second in the Million, however. After 40 grueling hand of heads-up play, ROMDOM had wore gator93 down to just 7.6 million chips, compared to ROMDOM's 72 million stack. It all came to an end in hand 41 of heads-up play when gator93 moved all-in on the button for his last 7.6 million, only to be called by ROMDOM. It was pretty close, with gator93's [As] [8s] edging out ROMDOM's [Kd] [10c]. gator93 held onto his lead after a [8d] [5h] [Jd] flop and a [3c] turn, but hold'em can be a cruel game sometimes and gator93's hopes of a comeback were dashed after the [Ks] fell on the river. Frank "gator93" Hernandez may have come up just short of adding another prestigious title to his resume, but he was able to add almost $200k to his lifetime live and online tournament winnings, pushing his career states to over $1.7 million.

ROMDOM ends up completing his very good day, taking $225,408.05 home for his second first place finish of the day.

Sunday Million: A Little Redemption For puffinmypurp

Monday, July 12th, 2010

sunday-million-thumb.jpgOnce again, action in the live world may have effected by action in the online one; meaning that the Sunday Million had a slightly overlaid $1.5 million dollar prize pool after attracting 6,375 runners. Nevertheless, some of the most popular PokerStars Team pros ponied up the $215 entry fee to do battle on the virtual felt. Although a few got close only Team Germany pro Florian Langmann (570th for $465) managed to parlay his skillful play into a cash. In spite of the general lack of Team PokerStars pros, plenty of highly skilled players were still very much alive as the final table bubble played out.

"More Chips Always Win"

It turned out to be an exciting final two tables, as final nine bubble play was marked by shown big bluffs and even bigger draw outs. After yet another big suck out--jacks out drawing kings--got us closer to a final table one railbird typed "More Chips Always Win." These words turned out to be prophetic.

With ten left and the blinds at 80k/160k with a 16k ante, praces raised to 320k from under the gun. Action was then folded around to puffinmypurp in the big blind who raised it to 4.4 million, effectively putting praces all-in. After pondering for a bit praces made the call and showed [Ah] [Qh]. It was a race, as puffinmypurp flipped over [Jh] [Jc]. The flop was great for praces, [6d] [Kd] [Qc], giving him a pair of queens and the lead. However, as the oracle railbird said, 'More Chips Always Win." And so after a blank [5c] fell on the turn the [Js] came on the river, sealing praces's fate in tenth ($8,400) and setting the final table.

Seat 1: puffinmypurp (10712713 in chips)
Seat 2: GripDsNutz (8353439 in chips)
Seat 3: SLIMOO1 (4807522 in chips)
Seat 4: rotiv azar (3708774 in chips)
Seat 5: mariocolci (3037032 in chips)
Seat 6: BigFlopper01 (13760995 in chips)
Seat 7: rcrane082985 (5189290 in chips)
Seat 8: acetoace (6554769 in chips)
Seat 9: drew5927 (7625466 in chips)

BigFlopper01 was in control with 13.7 million in chips when final table play was finally reached, holding more than a 3 million chip advantage over his nearest competitor. BigFlopper01 would need every one of those 13.7 million chips at the final table however, for well known online phenoms Tyler "puffinmypurp" Reiman (10.7 million in chips) and Nicholas "GripDsNutz" Grippo (8.3 million in chips) were sporting healthy stacks. On the opposite end of the spectrum rotiv azar (3.7 million in chips) and mariocolci (3 million in chips) were on the short stacks and looking for some early help as final table began. Blinds were 80k/160k with a 16k ante as play recommenced on table 23.

A Big Flop

After entering the final table with a sizable chip lead, BigFlopper01 managed to pad his stack with another 3 million chips with some aggressive play in the early goings. However, a misstep in hand nine with a weaker kicked trip fours knocked BigFlopper01 back down to the rest of the pack with 8.1 million. 41 grueling hands later and the former chip leader's once impressive stack had bled down to 5.4 million. Needing to make something happen and blinds at 150k/300k with a 30k ante, BigFlopper01 raised to 600k in early position. Play folded around to SLIMOO1 in the big blind, who moved all-in for 7.4 million. BigFlopper01 called off his last bit of chips and flipped over [Ac] [Qc], which was slightly behind SLIMOO1's [10h] [10c]. It proved to be a short race as the flop came [8c] [10d] [6s], giving SLIMOO1 a set of tens and a dominating lead. The [3h] on the turn and a mocking [Ad] on the river meant the end for BigFlopper01, who can console his early exit with $11,625 in prize money.

In Need of a Few More Aces

It would take another 28 long hands before the final eight would become the last seven. Play folded around to rcrane082985 in the small blind, who was enjoying a very healthy 16 million chip stack. rcrane082985 raised to 4.8 million, more than enough to cover big blind acetoace's tiny two million chip stack. acetoace made the call and was in big trouble with his [Kd] [10h] dominated against rcrane082985's [Kh] [Jc]. The flop provided both players with gut shot straight draws, falling [9c] [5h] [Qh], and although the [10s] on the turn gave acetoace a pair of tens it filled up rcrane082985's king high straight. Needing a jack to chop, acetoace whiffed on the river, [5c], sending him home in eighth with $18,000 in prize money.

Super Mario

After it seemed like the final table was destined to be a marathon, the Million was able to get down from seven to six in just four hands. mariocolci got things started off right with a 800k raise under the gun. Action was folded around to rotiv azar in the big blind, who made the call. The flop came [8c] [3d] [Qc] and rotiv azar lead out with another 800k bet. mariocolci answers with a re-raise all-in for 5.4 million. rotiv azar, who is covered, made the call and showing down [Ks] [Qs] for top pair, second best kicker. rotiv azar's hand is strong but proves to be second best against mariocolci's [Ad] [Qd]. The [9s] on the turn and [8h] on the river provides no reprieve and rotiv azar goes home in seventh, collecting $33,000 for his efforts.

Not the NutZ

Well known online pro--and fellow Chicagolander--Nicholas "GripDsNutz" Grippo found himself in a bit of trouble just four hands after rotiv azar's exit in seventh. Nursing a short stack and facing a cutoff raise to 800k by rcrane082985, GripDsNutz moves all-in from the big blind for 5.9 million. rcrane082985 instantly calls and flips over [Ac] [Kd]. In spite of rcrane082985's big slick, GripDsNutz isn't too far behind, turning over the drawing hand [Jc] [9c]. The flop, [Kc] [5d] [7c], provided some drama giving rcrane082985 top pair but GripDsNutZ a flush draw. The [Jh] on the turn gave GripDsNutz more outs to two pair or trips, but a blank [4d] falls on the river, eliminating GripDsNutz in sixth ($48,000) and pushing Grippo's career live and online tournament winnings to over $1.2 million.

Drew Puffed Away

Just under 20 hands after GripDsNutz's exit in sixth, two shorts stacks collide to help us get down to four. The action starts off on the button with rcrane082985, who raises to 800k. drew5927, in the small blind, re-raises all-in for 6.9 million and big blind puffinmypurp, surprisingly, makes the call, and is all-in for 6.6 million. rcrane082985 gets out of the way and we have a race, puffinmypurp's [Ah] [Qd] versus drew5927's [6s] [6h]. The flop comes down good for puffinmypurp, [Ad] [Js] [5h], giving him the lead with a pair of aces. Needing a six to eliminate puffinmypurp, drew5927 comes up dry on the turn, [3d], and then again on the river, [4c], crippling drew5927 down to under 300k. Sometimes more chips doesn't win, after all. A few hands later drew5927 exits in fifth ($63,000), his [Qc] [10d] failing to improve against rcrane082985's [Js] [Jc].

The Reign of Cane?

With four left rcane082985 was clearly in the driver's seat, wielding an impressive 25.4 million chip stack, good for almost 40 percent of the chips in play. In a place where deal making discussions often break out, the final four kept playing and started short stack watching.

With blinds at 200k/400k with a 40k ante, here's how the final four looked:

Seat 1: puffinmypurp (13951432 in chips)
Seat 3: SLIMOO1 (17559151 in chips)
Seat 5: mariocolci (6797566 in chips)
Seat 7: rcrane082985 (25441851 in chips)

The Short Reign of Cane Ends

Just two hands after getting down to four rcrane082985 stumbled, doubling up mariocolci to over 13 million. Five hands later, rcrane082985 relinquishes the chip lead  to SLIMOO1...and six hands later rcrane082985 meets his maker. Action starts with SLIMOO1 on the button, who makes it $1.5 million. mariocolci gets out of the way in the small blind, but rcrane082985 moves in for a massive 17.4 million total from the big blind. SLIMOO1, after thinking for a long while, makes the call having rcrane082985 covered by just 1 million chips. The hands: rcrane082985's [5c] [5d] versus SLIMOO1's [As] [10c]. It's a race, albeit a big one, for a massive 35 million chip pot. The flop is golden for SLIMOO1, coming [Qs] [10d] [Jd]. Trailing SLIMOO1's pair of tens and gut shot straight draw, rcrane082985 needed a third five on either the turn or river to stave off elimination. No luck on the turn, [2c], or the river, [8s], and rcrane082985 exits in fourth, good for an $82,500 payday.

GAME OVER

SLIMOO1 now rolling, it took the massive chip leader just six more hands to claim his next victim. With just over 44 million in chips and the blinds at 250k/500k, SLIMOO1 raises on the button to 2 million, with mariocolci then moving all-in for 3.6 million. SLIMOO1 made the call and revealed a lowly [Kh] [3c]. mariocolci was ahead with [10s] [10h], but had a tough sweat after the flop came down all clubs, [9c] [Qc] [Ac], giving SLIMOO1 a flush draw. The [Ks] on the turn was the dagger, giving SLIMOO1 the lead. Needing a non-club jack or ten on the river, mariocolci comes up short, [6d], and leaves in third place, collecting $120,000 for his work. mariocolci's exit puts the Million into its final stage, heads-up, with SLIMOO1 holding a massive chip lead over puffinmypurp, 48.4 million to 15.3 million.

Second Best No More

Tyler "puffinmypurp" Reiman is probably best known for his runner-up finish in the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, good for a $1.75 million dollar payday. In spite of the big win, nobody wants to be best remembered for being second best and with just two left in the Million, puffinmypurp had his sights set firmly on redemption. It was going to take mammoth comeback, however, before puffinmypurp could even begin to start thinking victory--his 15.3 million stack being a mere fraction of SLIMOO1's 48.4 million chip Bastille. This is poker, however, and anything can happen.

puffinmypurp.JPG
 Cue the Rocky Music?

After 38 hands of winding poker action, in which more than once SLIMOO1 held over 50 million in chips, the match was much closer, with puffinmypurp's 39.9 million stack leading SLIMOO1's 23.7 million one. Action begins with SLIMOO1 raising to 2.5 million on the button only to have puffinmypurp three-bet to 9.5 million. Undeterred by puffinmypurp's aggressive move, SLIMOO1 re-raises all-in. puffinmypurp snap calls, revealing [As] [Qs]. It proves to be a good call as SLIMOO1 flips over a bluff, [Kc] [3d]. Chances of a SLIMOO1 suck out were severely hit when the flop, [10s] [9d] [8s], brought puffinmypurp the nut flush draw. The [4c] on the turn and [9c] on the river spelled the end for SLIMOO1, who collects $168,750 for his second place finish.

It's redemption for puffinmypurp, who takes down that desired major victory and earns $228,150 in the effort.

Sunday Million: Karma Wins Out

Monday, July 5th, 2010

sunday-million-thumb.jpgWhile fireworks abound in the live world--due to some sort of Revolutionary War celebration or something--the online world was not to be out done, as exciting play and big pots highlighted the final stages of this week's Sunday Million. Of course the weekend's festivities coupled with more World Series events meant there would be a slightly overlaid prize pool in the Million this week, but 6,149 runners still managed to celebrate the patriotic holiday by playing an American pastime, online poker. Among the 6,149 were plenty of your favorite PokerStars pros, including PokerStars Team Portugal member Nuno Coelho (579th for $495), Team online pro Martha "marene" Herrera (411th for $570) and PokerStars Team Canada pro Marcello Del Grosso (120th for $1,260), who all managed to turn their efforts into a little cash.

Let the Fireworks Begin!

I said this Sunday players in the Million put on a pyrotechnic show worthy of July 4, and the final table bubble was no exception. With a few short stacks battling with each other for that oh-so-important last spot among the final nine, strangely two of the bigger stacks got into a raising war. On the button, and with a healthy 9 million in chips, Maim911 made a fairly standard 2.2x raise of 555,555. The small blind got out of the way, but KingKaizers, with a slightly bigger stack, made the call in the big blind. After a [9h] [2d] [6h] flop, and a KingKaizer check, Maim911 made a continuation bet of 650k only to face a check-raise to 1.455 million from KingKaizer. Maim911 made the call. The turn brought the [9c] and this time KingKaizer led out with a bet of 1,444,444. Maim911 decided to double the bet to 2,888,888, sending the action back to KingKaizer who moved all-in for 6.25 million. Maim911 debated the call for quite a while before finally pushing the last of his chips into the middle. Maim911 had a strong one, [Jh] [9d] for trip nines, but it was second best to KingKaizer's [6d] [6c] for a full boat. Maim911 could still improve to a better full house or even quads, but it wasn't to be for Maim911 as a river ten sealed his fate. The monster 17.6 million chip pot was shipped to KingKaizer, who in one fell swoop became the chip leader, and Maim911 was sent home in tenth, good for $8,400.

Seat 1: iSpeeZ (4248130 in chips)
Seat 2: csaba333 (14526001 in chips)
Seat 3: Showtime43 (3232413 in chips)
Seat 4: dope west (2675362 in chips)
Seat 5: KingKaizers (18755939 in chips)
Seat 6: The Doc (5312992 in chips)
Seat 7: JIZOINT (5090257 in chips)
Seat 8: memfis-mizra (3696276 in chips)
Seat 9: danceofddead (3952630 in chips)

As the final nine resembled at table 325 for the tournaments final stages, KingKaizer with 18.7 million in chips was the heavy chip leader. csaba333, who had been pounding the final table bubble with his big stack since the Million got down to two tables, was KingKaizer's closest competitor, holding just over 14.5 million chips. Manning the short stacks were iSpeeZ, Showtime43, memfis-mizra and danceofddead, who were all hovering between three and four million in chips. Blinds were 125k/250k with a 25k ante as play restarted.

And So Ends Showtime

After starting the final table as one of the short stacks, iSpeeZ had enjoyed a good run in the first 24 hands of final table play, building his stack up to about 9 million. Showtime43, conversely, had been unable to build the same kind of momentum and by hand 24 his short stack had shrunk even shorter, hovering at about 1.4 million. Needing to make a stand, and facing an early position raise of 900k from iSpeeZ, Showtime43 moved all-in for his last 1.4 million. Action was then folded back around to iSpeeZ who made the call. When the cards were revealed Showtime43 was in good shape, his [Ah] [Jd] crushing iSpeeZ's [Ks] [Jh]. However, the flop was unkind to Showtime43, falling [Kd] [2c] [9d]. Showtime43 was looking for an ace to catch up to iSpeeZ's pair of kings and stay alive, but instead the [3c] on the turn and [7s] on the river sent Showtime43 packing in ninth place ($11,625).

BOOM

It turns out the final table bubble's fireworks were just sparklers in comparison to the real action that was to come. In hands 47 and 48 of final table play it seemed players decided to switch from bottle rockets to bazookas, resulting in extremely exciting back-to-back eliminations.

Hand 47: With blinds at 200k/400k and a 40k ante, JIZOINT open shoved all-in for his last 6.6 million under-the-gun. Action his folded around to iSpeeZ in the hijack seat, who instantly called. Everyone left folded, leaving JIZOINT at risk heads-up against iSpeeZ heading into the flop. If you have to get yourself all-in pre-flop in Texas hold'em, you could do a lot worse than JIZOINT's holdings, [Ac] [Ks]. However, this time big slick was in big trouble, as iSpeeZ was holding the big one, pocket aces. A rather uninteresting board, [Js] [6d] [4s] [2d] [4h], sent JIZOINT home in eighth, earning him $18,000 for his strong effort.

Hand 48: PokerStars Team Canada pro and final table moderator Pat Pezzin had yet to type JIZOINT's congratulation when we were at it once again. csaba333 opened in middle position for 800k and action folded around to a short-stacked memfis-mizra in the big blind. Instead of moving all-in, memfis-mizra raised to 2.4 million, leaving him with about 900k behind. Action went back on csaba333, who thought for a while before pushing memfis-mizra all-in. memfis-mizra called and revealed [Ah] [3s], which was behind csaba333's [3c] [3d]. The flop came down [5h] [Kc] [2h], giving memfis-mizra's a few more outs to the wheel straight. However the [Jd] on the turn and [6d] on the river spelled memfis-mizra's doom,  who exited in seventh, receiving $33,000 to console himself with.

Dead is...well...dead

Doubling up against csaba333 with queens in the previous hand, dope west found himself in another good position in final table hand 76. Facing an open shove from danceofddead under-the-gun, dope west woke up with [As] [Qs] on the button and pushed all-in over the top. Everyone else folded and danceofddead revealed [5c] [5s]. The race ended almost soon as it began, a [Qd] [3h] [7h] flop pushed danceofddead's tournament life to the edge. Looking for a third five, a turn [10h] and river [9s] ended danceofddead's day, who collected $48,000 for his sixth place finish.

Doc Says "It's Time to Go Home"

Five hands after danceofddead's exit, one time chip leader csaba333 finally succumb after a bad run left him with just 3 million in chips. In the cutoff, csaba333 moved his last chips into the middle. Action then folded around to The Doc in the big blind, who made the call with [Ad] [7h]; csaba333 was behind, holding [Kc] [6h]. csaba333 came up dry on the flop, [10s] [5s] [8d], and on the turn, [Js], and, finally, on the river, [9d], eliminating him in fifth, good for a $63,000 payday.

Here is how the stacks looked following csaba333's exit in fifth:

Seat 1: iSpeeZ (14678584 in chips)
Seat 4: dope west (16142086 in chips)
Seat 5: KingKaizers (18668452 in chips)
Seat 6: The Doc (12000878 in chips)

Blinds were 250k/500k with a 50k ante as play restarted four handed.

It's that Time Once Again

Not long after csaba333's elimination chat turned toward deal making. Friendly, chip-chop discussions led to one of the easiest deals made in the Million's recent memory. The deal even inspired a few players to comment how long they had been waiting to type in that one, magical word, "Deal."

Anyway, with $30,000 left on the table here is how the deal worked out:

KingKaizers: $171,190.15
dope west: $140,010.25
iSpeeZ: $133,339.05
The Doc: $124,860.55

Medic!

With the ink not quite dry yet on the deal, The Doc found himself in need of some intensive care. dope west raised to 1.2 million in the cutoff only to have The Doc shove all-in for about 11 million from the small blind. Surprisingly, iSpeeZ flat called in the big blind, forcing dope west to give up his position. Heading into the flop The Doc needed some help, holding [Ad] [10h] versus iSpeeZ's [Ac] [Qc], and after [9h] [Qh] [3d] fell, The Doc needed a miracle heading into the turn. It was not to be as the [7s] on the turn and [Ah] on the river sealed the good doctor's fate, a fourth place finish good for $124,860.55.

KingKashes

KingKaizers, who made out the best in the deal with a locked up $171,190.15, maintained a steady stack in the 27 hands following The Doc's exit. However, hand 28 proved to be the king's undoing. In a battle of the blinds, chip leader dope west open shoved all-in from the small blind for a little over 26 million. KingKaizers snap called off his last 17.5 million and revealed [Ac] [Qh], which was far a head of dope west's [As] [4c]. The flop was safe for KingKaizers, falling [2d] [10s] [8d], but a dagger [4h] on the turn pushed KingKaizers to the brink. No queen on the river and KingKaizers exited in third place. Don't feel too bad for KingKaizers's bad break, however. The deal struck when the table was four handed had locked up KingKaizers top money. Neither dope west nor iSpeeZ could cash for more now, even with the $30,000 bonus for first. Nice deal making.

Karmic Win?

The stacks were pretty uneven as heads-up play commenced in the Million. KingKaizers's exit had given dope west a commanding 44.4 million to 17 million chip advantage over iSpeeZ. And with the limits at 300k/600k with a 60k ante, iSpeeZ had less than 30 big blinds to play with. But iSpeeZ had started the final nine with a chip disadvantage and was looking to spin that early comeback into a late charge.

iSpeeZ.JPG
Karma Time?

iSpeeZ got his big chance 18 hands into heads-up play when, after raising to 1.8 million on the button, dope west re-popped the pot all-in. iSpeeZ called, revealing [Ks] [Qs], a coin-flip against dope west's [Ah] [5c]. dope caught a pair, fives, on the flop, but was trumped by iSpeeZ caught king. The board completed [6h] [5s] [Kc] [9d] [10d], doubling iSpeeZ to 44.5 million and knocking dope west down to just under 17 million.

After a small rally by dope west, the Million would come to an end just eight hands later when we got one last fireworks show to close out the night. iSpeeZ raised to 1.8 million on the button and was flat called by dope west. The flop came a very well connected [8s] [9h] [7h]. dope west checked to the bettor and iSpeeZ made another 1.8 million bet. dope west then moved in over the top for nearly 20 million total and iSpeeZ called. Ready for the finale? dope west turned up with a monster heads-up, [Qs] [Qc], only to be way behind iSpeeZ's [Ad] [Ac]. The board kept kosher, [3h] [8h], and iSpeeZ was the victor, taking home the extra $30k for $163,339.05 total. dope west, of course, didn't exit in second place empty handed, collecting $140,010.25 for his efforts.

Sunday Million: LOL_FAILURE… LOL Not Today!

Monday, June 28th, 2010

sunday-million-thumb.jpgAnother big weekend for the WSOP this week, featuring a wide range of buy-ins from $1,000 to $5,000 for the everyday tournament grinder. In spite of all the action in Vegas, however, 6,640 players shelled out the $215 entry-fee in order to play for their shot at the overlaid, $1,500,000 guaranteed Sunday Million. Among the runners were French tennis superstar and PokerStars Sports Pro Gaƫl Monfils, fresh off his battle at Wimbledon. Monfils made a respectable run in the Million, bottoming out in 480th ($495), showing that he's not just a one game ringer. Joining Monfils in the payout circle were Team PokerStars Online Pros Grayson "spacegravy" Physioc (480th for $495) and Steven "stevejpa" Paul (383rd for $555) as well as Team Asia player Tae Joon Noh, who came within sniffing distance of the final table finishing in 32nd ($3,135).

antares1968, "Thank You Very Much"

Short stacks fell quickly as play in the Million progressed from 18 down to a final table and with one of the shortest stacks in the room, antares1968 found himself against the ropes on the final table bubble. Action was folded around to antares1968, who pushed all-in for about 2.4 million. antares1968 managed to get one caller, elvisthewing, who played out of the big blind. It's [Ac] [Kd] for antares1968 and [10c] [10s] for elvisthewing, a classic race. The flop was good for elvisthewing, [5s] [3h] [7d], and so is the turn, [9s]. Needing a King or Ace to stave off elimination, antares1968 couldn't muster a key suck-out when a harmless deuce fell on the river. antares1968 exited in tenth place, collecting $8,400 in the process and setting the final table.

Seat 1: spadesarmada (2433108 in chips)
Seat 2: spiderman443 (4491322 in chips)
Seat 3: ImDaNuts (15731440 in chips)
Seat 4: PokerSavage (5340264 in chips)
Seat 5: nielsoobal (10712517 in chips)
Seat 6: thedylan1 (9731772 in chips)
Seat 7: elvisthewing (9002265 in chips)
Seat 8: LOL_FAILURE (2954138 in chips)
Seat 9: Mr Brizza (5927174 in chips)

As the final nine turned their attention to table 539 for the tournament's final action there were plenty of "haves" and "have nots" in terms of chips. ImDaNuts led the way in the haves department, holding $15.7 million in chips, while spadesarmada occupied the table's lowest rung, boasting only a 2.4 million chip stack. Blinds were 125k/250k with a 25k ante as final table play commenced.

Spiderman's Boat

The shortest stack when play restarted at table 339 somewhat predictably struggled to chip up as the final table played out. With just under 2.3 million in chips and the blinds quickly approaching, spadesarmada moved all-in from early position and was instantly raised by the player one position to his left, spiderman443, who pushed his also smallish 3.7 million stack into the middle. Folds all around reveal the situation: a race, with spadesarmada needing his [5h] [5s] to hold against spiderman443's [Ah] [Qs] in order to stave off elimination. spadesarmada's double-up hopes were slashed when the flop came down [Qd] [Kh] [6h], giving spiderman443 the lead with a pair of queens. The [6h] came on the turn and another queen, the [Qc], fell on the river, giving spiderman443 a full house and eliminating spadesarmada in ninth ($11,625).

Easy Come, Easy Go

spiderman443's knockout of spadesarmada turned out to be a short-lived victory for the number two seat, as spiderman443 found his own stack in the middle not long after sending spadesarmada to the rail. The action was folded around to spiderman443 on the button, who raised his last 3.6 million all-in. Chip leader, ImDaNuts, re-raised from the small blind to 6.9 million. PokerSavage1 got out of the way in the big blind and the cards were turned up. It was devastating news for Spiderman443, who was holding a dominated [5h] [5c] against ImDaNuts's [7c] [7d]. The board ran dry for spiderman443, [2d] [Ks] [6c] [Jd] [Kd], and spiderman443 was out in eighth, collecting $18,000 for his efforts. For those keeping track at home, yes that's two bust outs in a row with the loser holding two fives. Guess the "speed limit" wasn't running too hot Sunday.

True to His Name

A whopping 46 hands after spiderman443 exited in eighth, the last table finally decreased by one again. Action folded around to ImDaNuts in the cutoff, who raised to about 1 million only to have nielsoogbal move all-in in front of him in the small blind. ImDaNuts made the call with [As] [7s] and was up against nielsoogbal's drawing hand, [Jc] [9c]. The flop and turn was mixed for both, [2s] [10] [Ah] [8h]. nielsoogbal picked up an up and down straight draw, but ImDaNuts improved to the nut flush draw. Which draw would catch up first? The [8s] fell on the river, and although not the absolute nuts it did give ImDaNuts the nut flush. spiderman443 exits in seventh, earning $33,000 for his deep run.

Savage Man, That's Just Savage

It wouldn't be a final table without a nice cold cooler. Under-the-gun, ImDaNuts opens the betting to about 1.1 million. PokerSavage1 re-raises one position later to 2.2 million only to face a three-bet all-in from Mr Brizza in the big blind for 7.8 million total. Mr Brizza's raise gets past initial raiser, ImDaNuts, but is quickly called by PokerSavage1 who turns over [Ac] [Ad]. A sickened Mr Brizza shows [Qd] [Qh] and is far behind. Brizza whiffs hard on the flop, [4c] [10h] [10s], and can't catch a lady on either of the last two streets. The cooler sends Mr Brizza home in sixth ($48,000) and moves PokerSavage1 into a strong second chip position behind ImDaNuts.

Savage Man, That's Just Savage Part II

Ah what a difference 98 hands makes. Yeah, you read that right, it took 98 long hands to eliminate another player from the Million. Proving that poker truly is savage, PokerSavage1 becomes the second player at the Sunday Million final table to be eliminated after having eliminated the previous finisher. With blinds at 400k/800k and a 80k ante, LOL_FAILURE raises from under-the-gun to 2.4 million. PokerSavage1, on the short stack now, moves all-in over the top for his last 8.5 million on the button. LOL_FAILURE called and found himself in a dominating position against PokerSavage1, with his [Ad] [Qh] in great shape against PokerSavage1's [Ah] [Jd]. No help came on the flop for PokerSavage1, [6d] [3h] [6c], but the two sixes did provide some possible spit pot outs down the line. However the [Kc] on the turn and [4d] on the river killed any hopes of a PokerSavage1 double-up, who will be able to console himself with fifth place money, $63,000.

The Nuts Aren't Quite Good Enough

ImDaNuts has had some big wins recently, in some of PokerStars's most well attended events, but had yet to take down the big prize, the Sunday Million. With good chips, following PokerSavage1's bust out, ImDaNuts found himself in great position to make a run at yet another online title. However, after dwindling down to the short stack playing four handed, ImDaNuts found his last chips in the middle, needing some help to survive. LOL_FAILURE started off the action on the button, raising it up to 2.9 million. ImDaNuts flat called in the small blind and thedylan1 pushed the action by moving all-in in the big blind for a little over 18 million. LOL_FAILURE moved out of the way, but ImDaNuts made the call for his last 2.2 million with a pretty [Qh] [Jh]. It might have been pretty, but it was in ugly shape against thedylan1's [Ad] [Ks], especially after the board ran out [5c] [9c] [5s] [10s] [9d]. No nuts for ImDaNuts, who made yet another impressive, deep run finishing in fourth ($82,500).

Where We At?

The 22 hands that followed ImDaNuts's elimination were all mostly small pots, but thedylan1 used his big stack to win 16 of those 22. At one point thedylan1 had over two thirds of the chips in play and was dominating the action. And then came hand 23 after ImDaNuts's elimination. After getting it all-in pre-flop with [As] [Qs] versus thedylan1's [Ac] [Ks] and then having the flop and turn run dry, [6s] [5h] [3d] [3s], LOL_FAILURE found a big queen on the river to double up to a near tie with thedylan1.

Chip counts after the big hand:

Seat 6: thedylan1 (30566820 in chips)
Seat 7: elvisthewing (8000874 in chips)
Seat 8: LOL_FAILURE (27832306 in chips)

Elvis Has Left the Building

Not long after LOL_FAILURE's big double, a short stack elvisthewing moved all-in on the button for his last 6.1 million. LOL_FAILURE made the call in the small blind and thedylan1 got out of the way. elvisthewing was ahead, with [As] [7c] versus LOL_FAILURE's [Qc] [10c]. That is, elvisthewing WAS ahead. A [3h] [8c] [10h] gave LOL_FAILURE the lead, with a pair of tens, and a [5c] turn made things even darker for elvisthewing. No miracle river, only the [8h], and elvisthewing was out in third ($120,000) sending the final table into heads-up play.

FAILURE Breeds Success

Things were real even as heads-up play commenced. thedylan1 enjoyed the slight lead, 35.1 million to LOL_FAILURE's 31.2, but with such high blinds, 500k/1 million with a 100k, things were set up to change quickly. Well, 12 hands into the match a massive, 61 million chip pot set up pre-flop between our final two competitors. With 35 million on the button, thedylan1 raised to 2.3 million. LOL_FAILURE, not satisfied with a small pot pre-flop, re-raised to 5.6 million. thedylan1 countered by pushing all-in, having LOL_FAILURE covered. LOL_FAILURE went into the tank, thinking for some time before making the call with [Ah] [9h]. It turned out to be a good call, as thedylan1 turned over [Ac] [6h].

Let the roller coaster ride begin!

The flop came down [6s] [Qh] [8s], giving thedylan1 a pair of sixes and the lead. However, LOL_FAILURE managed to re-suck on the turn with the [9d]. There would be no third suck-out, as a blank five fell on the river, giving LOL_FAILURE a massive 61.6 million to 4.7 million chip lead.

Six hands later and we have our champion, when LOL_FAILURE's [Kc] [4d] held against thedylan1's [Qc] [9s]. LOL not a failure this time!
